Tournament rules
Kata
White to Orange Belts (all ages)
Any Heian/Pinan/Shiho Zuki kata
Kata may be repeated.
Green to Purple Belts (all ages)
Must be Heian/Pinan/Shiho Zuki kata in all rounds except medal rounds. A minimum of two katas (A/B)
Medal rounds are FREE choice
Full 3rd Kyu and above (up to 13 years)
Heians first 2 rounds
FREE choice in rounds 3 and beyond.
A minimum of three katas (A/B/C)
Full 3rd Kyu and above (14 years and above)
Heian first round
Ananku, Bassai Dai and Seienchin second round
FREE choice in rounds 3 and beyond.
A minimum of three katas (A/B/C)
*Judge will blow whistle for competitors to begin their kata.
Kumite
All Rounds will be 1.5 minutes (stop/start)
Body guards are optional for 13 years and below (not supplied by tournament)
Body guards are compulsory for 14 years and above (we encourage you to have your own but there will be minimal available at the tournament)
Head guards are compulsory for 13 years and below
5 year old division compulsory equipment – gloves and head guard
6/7 years and above compulsory equipment – gloves, shin guards, head guards (13 years and below), mouthguard, groin guard (male), chest guard (females over 13 years).
*Modified WKF kumite rules will apply
**Event organisers reserve the right to merge any divisions
***Divisions will three competitors will be a round robin event.
****COACHING – under 18 years non representative (cannot be elite, state, national representative)
***** Reparcharge will be applied to all division with more than 4 competitors. Not applicable to Sumo division. One Bronze medal per division.
Sumo Clash Rules 2025
You cannot enter both Kumite and Sumo divisions.
1 Minute Round.
Kick shields to be in constant contact (no running into each other.
Goal is to push your opponent out of the ring.
First to 2 wins (Best of 3).
Falling over is a warning.
Running into your opponent is a warning.
4th Warning is disqualification.
Competitors must wear helmets (no face shield required)
Kobudo Rules 2025
All ages
a) The performance of the Kobudo kata must adhere to the essence of the original Kobudo kata
b) Any Kobudo kata performed must adhere to the original directional pattern of the Kobudo kata.
c) The Kobudo Kata must be performed with competence and must demonstrate a clear understanding of the traditional principles it contains. Kobudo Kata is not a dance or theatrical performance. It must adhere to the traditional values and principles. realistic in fighting terms and display concentration, power, and potential impact in its techniques. It must demonstrate strength, power, and speed as well as grace, rhythm and balance.
d) Excessive use of pauses during the Kobudo kata. The Kobudo kata should be performed with minimal interruption and with a natural flow throughout.
e) The competitor must always maintain control of the weapons during the performance. In the event that the competitor drops the weapon, there will be no penalty.
f) For the safety of the competitors and official’s control of the weapon is required at all times.
g) Competitors may only use weapons they are licensed to use.
h) Kata must be from a traditional Kobudo kata list, either Okinawan or Japanese.
i) Competitors may repeat kata.
